Henry Smith – dissolution of Parliament Bulletin
It has been an honour to serve my hometown as its Member of Parliament these last five years – however from a minute past midnight on Monday, Parliament is dissolved, and I will officially stop being an MP. (I am still on hand to assist – please email henry4crawley@aol.com or call 01293 934554 if I can help.)
It has been a privilege to provide personal assistance to over 5,000 constituents since the last General Election and speak up for Crawley in the House of Commons over 300 times.
This Government have taken action to ensure the UK gets back on its feet. Income tax has been cut for 25 million people, and there are 1.9 million more people in work than in 2010 – with three quarters of these jobs being full-time.
If you would like to help my re-election campaign in any way, please let me know. This week I was delighted to receive the endorsement of Dr Brian May, Queen guitarist and animal welfare campaigner – it has been a pleasure to work with Brian on a number of campaigns over the years.
Forge Wood: Fascinating to visit Crawley’s 14th neighbourhood, providing 1,900 new homed including around 530 council properties.
English Votes for English Laws: Presented my Crawley Fair Votes for All Petition in Parliament – my thanks to everyone who took the time to sign.
Common Decency: Delighted to be endorsed at the General Election by Queen legend Dr Brian May! It has been fascinating working with Brian on animal welfare campaigns since being elected to Parliament in 2010.
Growth for Crawley: Called in the Commons for further investment in infrastructure.
Chagos Islands: Honoured to join with community representatives in presenting a Petition to 10 Downing Street supporting the right of resettlement.
Register to Vote: Please make sure you are registered to vote at the General Election on 7th May – the UK Government website states the deadline to register is 20th April 2015.
Alzheimer’s Society: Essential we all work together to help more than 1,000 people in Crawley, and their families, who are living with dementia.
Budget 2015: Pleased to welcome the Chancellor’s Budget – a better deal for Crawley taxpayers.
Saving taxpayers’ money: Thanked the Minister for the Cabinet Office (and Horsham MP) Francis Maude, for years of public service, as he confirmed the efficiency savings his department have ensured since 2010
Easter Egg Appeal: Delighted to support and donate to the Crawley Town Supporters Alliance annual Easter Egg Appeal for Chestnut Tree House – please donate if you can!
Follow me on my website, on Facebook, via Twitter, and on YouTube.
Alongside being a father and family man, representing our town in the House of Commons is one of the greatest responsibilities I have ever held.
I humbly ask you to lend me your vote on 7th May, and allow me to continue to stand up for Crawley.
