Henry Smith MP has written to the Environmental Agency and West Sussex County Council to express the deep concerns of many local residents over the bad odour that has been drifting over the town in recent weeks.
Henry said:
“The odour that has been hovering over parts of Crawley for several weeks now is at best unpleasant but at worst has forced people inside behind closed windows and so unable to enjoy the recent spell of sunny weather.
“We all accept the odd bad smell when nearby farms are for example muckspreading but the pungent odours, believed to be coming from the KPS Composting site at Pease Pottage, have gone on for far too long and so that’s why I’m raising the matter with the Environmental Agency and County Council.”
It is believed the compositing site has been struggling to cope with additional material because of the wet summer and therefore faster growing season.
