I am delighted that Crawley Magistrates Court has completed its long-overdue refurbishment. I have campaigned extensively for this work to be carried out, raising the issue in Parliament and following a meeting with the Justice Minister, successfully securing the funding for its refurbishment.
Crawley Courthouse deals with a large number of cases, including those emanating from Gatwick Airport, and as such a major town centre redevelopment was essential.
Significantly, this refurbishment is supplemented by the existing Town Centre North regeneration scheme in which over £200 million has been secured to redevelop the area around The Boulevard.
Extensive building work has taken place at the Northgate, Woodfield Road site, with alterations being made to the front and side entrances to the court. The entire buildings windows have also been replaced together with the installation of a new parking bay, security barrier and air conditioning units. As such the Crawley Magistrates Court will now be fit-for-purpose with improved energy efficiency, disabled access and weather proofing.
This development is one aspect of a more comprehensive (and much needed) face lift for our town centre which I reported on last October aimed at helping to fund some of Crawley’s much needed revitalisation plans.
Crawley Town Centre Partnership Town Team has been selected as part of a national scheme to improve our town centre. Each Town Team Partner will be able to access the support package the Association of Town Centre Management has prepared for Town Team Partners. The support package aims to promote shared learning and best practice with the help of retail experts and other town teams from across the country. In addition,
Yet again, Crawley has successfully mobilised to capitalise on investment opportunities which I believe will help reinvigorate our town centre, revitalise our high street and alleviate the key concerns of local businesses whilst supporting new enterprises to flourish
