Henry Smith MP has lobbied alongside local airline, Virgin Atlantic, to secure the company’s acquisition of all of the Heathrow short haul remedy slots following the release of twelve British Airways Heathrow slot-pairs by the parent International Airlines Group to secure regulatory approval for the acquisition of bmi.
Commenting on the deal, Henry said:
“Last month I reported on the success of a joint lobby of the Transport Secretary and European Commission by myself and Virgin Atlantic in support of the airline’s bid.
“Today Virgin Atlantic has announced new jobs for Crawley and 150 jobs nationwide to service the airline’s 24 daily domestic short haul operations between London and Scotland or Manchester.
“Virgin’s successful bid will ensure that the UK has a more competitive and better connected short-haul flight service.”
