Local MP, Henry Smith, has welcomed the latest statistics revealed by the independent Office for National Statistics (ONS) today which highlights the town’s continuing fall in unemployment across all age groups, as well as for young people aged 18 – 24.
Commenting, Henry said:
“I’m delighted by our town’s continuing fall in unemployment, now to 2.5 percent, which shows that this Government is getting people off benefits and back into work.
“I’m especially pleased that the percentage of Crawley’s young people who are unemployed has fallen from 8.6 percent since May 2010 to 2.9 percent last month – this represents a sixty-six percent reduction.
“Whilst Labour’s tax and spend policies amassed historic national debt, this Government has restored Great Britain’s economic policies to a sound footing – paying off the national credit card’s historic debts; supporting business to grow and to invest; and creating 1.5 million new jobs. For every one job lost in the public sector last year, six new jobs have been created across the private sector."
