With Christmas just a few days away, I’ve been reflecting on the work of organisations such as Open Doors, who work for freedom of faith globally - a right we take as a given here in the UK.
I look forward to attending the launch of their 2018 World Watch List in the House of Commons next month. This is Open Doors’ annual report which highlights the use of persecution as a systematic tool of suppression in all too many countries.
Previously I’ve spoken in Parliament about the importance of defending the freedom of religion. In recent years the organisation has done much to support people living under the hell of Daesh/ISIS rule, many Christians included.
Following the increasing defeat of this evil death cult in recent years, Open Doors has published video of churchbells in Iraq ringing out for the first time since Daesh were defeated there.
The UK Government is continuing to work with its global counterparts, as well as with UN and international community partners, to deliver justice, promote the rights of all minorities, and to ensure that humanitarian aid reaches those in greatest need.
My very best wishes for Christmas and the New Year.
