Saturday July 4th: Honoured to join local community activist Maria Hains at her charity summer garden party, as well as attending St Barnabas Church’s 60th Anniversary Fair Tombola.
Monday July 6th: Pleased to welcome members of Crawley’s Sikh Community for a tour of the Palace of Westminster.
Tuesday July 7th: Delighted to meet children from Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Primary School, Langley Green, at Downing Street whilst they were in Westminster for the day. Fantastic to welcome such polite and engaging students to our capital.
On the floor of the House I asked the Minister for Community and Social Care for his comments on funding for mental health support for young people and his assurances that this area would not be underfunded in the future.
Wednesday July 8th: Met with the Chief Executive of Boeing in Parliament. I am pleased to relay that the company are looking to extend their business in Crawley providing further jobs and economic benefit to the area.
Hailed the Summer Budget delivered by the Chancellor of the Exchequer in the Commons. Key points include the introduction of a new, compulsory, National Living Wage of £9 per hour for over 25s by 2020 (it starts at £7.20 per hour next April) and the tax-free Personal Allowance being raised to £11,000 next year.
Thursday July 9th: Called for a parliamentary debate on aircraft air intake poisoning affecting crew and passengers following the death of a Crawley airline employee.
Friday July 10th: Crawley Cagers Basketball Club invite me to one of their sessions at Holy Trinity. The club are keen to encourage more children in the town to take up basketball.
