Saturday July 11th: Attended an extremely moving minute silence, in Maidenbower, for local resident, Alfie Gray, 7, whom tragically passed away on holiday this week.
Sunday July 12th: Presented trophies to junior members of Crawley Boxing Club. The group have a history of supporting local youngsters.
Monday July 13th: Met with the Airport Operators Association to further discuss the importance of abolishing of Air Passenger Duty.
Launched the annual, Gatwick Diamond, ‘Young Start-Up Talent’ which offers local 16-25 years-olds the opportunity to present their entrepreneurial ideas to business leaders with a chance to win £50,000 in business support.
Visited Crawley based Bard, a medical equipment company that employs over 200 people locally.
Tuesday July 14th: Delighted to welcome Sussex Police & Crime Commissioner, Katy Bourne, to Westminster. It is pleasing to hear that Crawley Police Station will be receiving substantial investment in the future.
Asked for assurances from the Home Secretary, in light of the situation at Calais, that the UK Border Force will not be diminished at other points of entry in the UK; such as Gatwick Airport.
Wednesday July 15th: Had the pleasure of meeting local Crawley resident and Thales UK apprentice, Amberly, in Parliament. She was joined by the company Chief Executive, Victor Chavez.
Welcomed the Foreign Secretary’s work on securing improved diplomatic relations with Iran through a new nuclear deal. I also asked what other discussions he would have with other Persian Gulf states to reassure them of the UK’s commitment in this area.
Thursday July 16th: Attended the latest Tilgate Forum community meeting. The Forum discussed the tackling of issues such as traffic and recycling in the ward.
Friday July 17th: Met with the management of Virgin Atlantic Airlines to discuss the modernisation of its fleet. The company have commissioned 21 new Boeing 787s.
