Monday November 2nd: On the floor of the House I thanked Crawley based B&CE The People’s Pension for assisting in introducing this Government’s pension savings auto-enrollment scheme. The plan now covers approximately 10 million workers nationally.
Tuesday November 3rd: Met with a patient support advocacy service for Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia to discuss funding and availability of rarer blood cancer medicines.
Pleased to welcome the Governments pledge to plant a further 11 million trees throughout the UK which will create an additional 25,000 acres of new woodland by 2020.
Wednesday November 4th: Welcomed members of the Chagos Community to Downing Street to enable them to hand a petition to the Prime Minister over their right to return to the British Indian Ocean Territory.
Attended the Bloodwise Leukaemia Reception at the Houses of Parliament. I am thankful for their tireless work and research into combatting leukaemia and chronic lymphocytic leukaemia in the UK.
Met with the Home Secretary to raise the issue of further support for Sussex Police as well as discussing matters such as refugees within Crawley.
Thursday November 5th: Continued to support the reform of the Education funding formula in Parliament. I am currently running a petition on this issue – please visit www.henrysmith.info/campaigns/school-funding for more information.
Thanked the Transport Secretary for his diligence in halting flights to and from Sharm el Sheikh; I support these actions to protect the thousands of UK holiday makers currently at the destination.
Raised the importance of expanding bee habitats as part of the National Pollinator Strategy introduced by the Government.
Friday November 6th: Pleased to engage with students at Orel High School on the issue of NHS Funding. I am grateful for the Government’s commitment to an additional £10billion over the current Parliament.
At my advice bureau met with a number of constituents to discuss issues ranging from rent fraud and social housing applications.
