Monday January 11th: Attend the Town Hall to further meet with Surrey, East and West Sussex County and District Councils to discuss the Government’s plans to devolve further plans from central government to local authorities.
Pleased to welcome the Prime Minister's statement of the Government investing billions of extra pounds into the UK mental health sector to enhance services. It is approximated that 1 in 4 people in the country will experience a mental health issue each year.
Tuesday January 12th: On the floor of the House I paid tribute to the professionalism of Sussex Police officers, in Crawley, following an awful attack on a constable last week (7 Jan).
Historic moment in the House of Commons as the first veto under the English Votes for English Law is used on the Housing and Planning Bill.
Wednesday January 13th: Attended the Open Doors Reception, an organisation that supports Christians being persecuted around the world and campaigns for them to worship freely. Many Christians in areas embroiled in the war against Daesh have been forced to leave their homes and suffered brutal abuse.
Hosted a Parliamentary Reception on cancer policy which discussed items such as improvements to care and the future scientific advance that could transform care for patients.
Thursday January 14th: Backed Bowel Cancer UK’s call to improve bowel cancer services and support their aim to transform survival rates. Bowel cancer is one of the most commonly diagnosed cancers in the UK with around 40,000 new diagnoses each year.
Friday January 15th: Met with constituents at my Advice Bureau to discuss state pensions, animal welfare and residential care.
