Saturday January 16th: Campaigned with the excellent and effective Sussex Police Commissioner, Katy Bourne, whom is widely considered the most effective PCC in the country. Between June 2010 and March 2015 crime was down by 6% in Sussex (13% England & Wales) and it is pleasing to hear that extra investment is currently being made available for Crawley Police Station.
Monday January 18th: Pressed the Rail Minister, Network Rail and GTR management about unacceptably sub-standard train services experience by Southern customers. Many constituents have contacted me over the last few months with very valid concerns that I share.
Tuesday January 19th: Discussed European trade flexibility from outside the European Union with the Swiss Ambassador to London. It was interesting to hear their views given that Switzerland are no part of the EU.
Wednesday January 20th: Met with the Pensions Minister to discuss the importance of the workplace auto-enrolment scheme and WASPI concerns from constituents.
Hosted ‘A Fair Tax on Flying’ in Parliament. The Government has already abolished this duty for children’s tickets but I continue to support a further reduction on other tickets – this would make this medium of transport cheaper for passengers and increase UK competitiveness.
Thursday January 21st: I welcome UK employment at its highest level ever with Crawley joblessness at 1.5% (ONS December 2015). The is still work to do which is why I am hosting the Crawley Apprenticeship and Jobs Fair on 4th March, 10am to 3pm, at the Civic Hall.
Friday January 22nd: Took part in an interview with the BBC over the resettlement of the Chagos Islanders. A BBC poll suggests that 98% of the community support a return to the island.
