Monday May 16th: Continued to highlight how leaving the EU would benefit animal welfare. The EU’s law on the transport of live animals has led to livestock, some only two weeks old, being driven over huge distances in cramped containers – conditions which would be illegal in this country once they reach their destination.
Tuesday May 17th: I met with the Health Minister, Alistair Burt, to discuss GP provisions in Crawley. It is pleasing to hear that an extra £2.4 billion will be invested into the sector, across England, for improvements.
Wednesday May 18th: I welcome the Queen’s speech at State Opening of Parliament. I am however disappointed that the Government have decided against pursing the Sovereignty Bill - the only way we can reassert Parliamentary Democracy is voting to leave in next month’s EU referendum.
Thursday May 19th: Pleased to take part in a BBC South East TV interview to discuss the EU referendum and the additional pressures resulting from immigration.
As part of Dementia Awareness Week, I escorted the Public Health Minister, Jane Ellison, to K2 Crawley for Living Well Day. It is warming to see a great local team supporting initiatives such as Dementia Friendly Swimming.
Friday May 20th: Always delighted to visit the residents of Randall Schofield, Three Bridges - the main topic of conversation was the upcoming EU Referendum. Thanks for the cuppa!
In the evening I was invited to take part in the Chamber of Commerce’s debate, held at the Arora Hotel, on the pro’s and con’s of staying in the European Union or leaving it.
