Monday June 6th: I continued to call on both Govia Thameslink Railway and rail unions to stop the blame game and to work together to improve services for passengers. The level of service provided recently has been unacceptable for Crawley commuters. I was interviewed live on BBC South East to discuss these issues as it must be resolved.
Tuesday June 7th: On the floor of the House I raised, again, the case of a convicted Dutch murderer whom was allowed to freely enter the country, as an EU citizen and without a criminal records check, whom subsequently seriously assaulted three Crawley residents (two female police officers) with a hammer earlier this year. If we were to vote to leave the European Union in the Referendum on 23 June we would be able to control whom enters the UK.
I was pleased to host the RSPCA in Parliament and was grateful to meet their new Chief Executive, Jeremy Cooper. I am grateful for the animal welfare work they perform however by being part of the EU, it also means free movement of animal cruelty – live exports and puppy farm imports.
Wednesday June 8th: I attended a meeting with Govia Thameslink Railway to reiterate Crawley constituents’ frustration at their rail services. Ironically I only just made the meeting as the train I was due to catch was cancelled!
Thursday June 9th: In the Commons I raised the very concerning reports, from Crawley and nationally, that EU citizens have received referendum polling cards and papers.
Friday June 10th: I met with residents of the Tinsley Green area of town whom are, understandably, concerned about heavy goods traffic in the area. I will be raising these issues with both Crawley and West Sussex Councils.
Visited the Crawley branch of Pets at Home to hear about their approach to responsible animal ownership.
Delighted to take part in a film research piece on the exile of the Chagossian community. As many are aware, the largest community of Chagos Islanders globally is settled in Crawley and they have continued to fight for the right to return to the British Indian Ocean Territory.
