Monday June 27th: In Westminster for the first time since the UK voted to Leave the European Union. Following the Prime Minister announcing his resignation, I was in the House of Commons to hear David Cameron update MPs as to how the democratic will of the country will be carried out.
Tuesday June 28th: In my role as Co-Chair of the All Party Animal Welfare Group, I met with Ipsen Group, a responsible pharmaceutical firm reducing animal testing for better ethics, patient care and the economy.
Wednesday June 29th: Very disappointed that the UK Supreme Court did not uphold the right of return for Chagos Islanders to the British Indian Ocean Territory. Hours later I raised this issue at Prime Minister’s Questions – David Cameron told the Commons that an announcement will be made in the coming months.
Thursday June 30th: A privilege to speak at the Thomas Bennett Sixth Form Graduation in the council chamber at the Town Hall – many congratulations!
Attended an event hosted by the US Ambassador at the American Embassy ahead of Independence Day next week. In spite of recent rhetoric, the Special Relationship is stronger than ever.
Friday July 1st: Preparing for a meeting next week with the General Secretary of the RMT regarding ongoing rail disruption. Both the union and the rail company (Govia Thameslink Railway) are at fault for the problems we are experiencing.
