Although I’ve been away for a few weeks visiting family in America and Cornwall, it’s been somewhat a ‘busman’s holiday’ as when I was in Chicago I met with a local high school district which has developed strong technical education and is looking to make links with Crawley, as well as the British Consul General about establishing better trade between the US Midwest and Gatwick Diamond economy.
Back in Crawley, on:
Monday August 18th: I met with some Crawley young people new into work and welcomed local youth unemployment falling to 2.1%.
Tuesday August 19th: Visited and congratulating West Sussex County Council on Buchan Country Park being ranked one of the best local preserves nationally for the fifth year in a row. Another reason why Crawley Borough Council should not be proposing to locate a travellers site in the vicinity.
Wednesday August 20th: At Gatwick Airport with easyJet (no, unfortunately wasn’t checking-in for a flight to go on holiday) to help promote and support their UNICEF collection campaign to eradicate polio in children.
Thursday August 21st: Delighted to officially open Crawley's newest restaurant tonight, Turtle Bay, serving Caribbean food. More employment and cuisine choice for Crawley.
Friday August 22nd: Good meeting with Sport England today who have funded a number of local projects recently. Sport participation is worth over £51 million to Crawley through economic activity and by promoting healthier lifestyles.
Saturday August 23rd: Well it had to happen sooner or later, I was ice bucket challenge nominated today! Pleased to be supporting motor neuron disease charities, even if it means getting cold and wet!
Sunday August 24th: My thanks as ever to St Andrew's Church, Furnace Green for their hospitality and fellowship at their service this morning.
