With two weeks until the referendum on the United Kingdom’s membership of the European Union on 23rd June, Henry Smith MP has reiterated his support for a Leave vote.
Henry said;
“While I’ve previously spoken of how it’s important for the economy and our democracy to Vote Leave, there’s a further reason that’s very close to my own heart.
“I’ve campaigned on animal welfare issues for many years. As the Farming Minister, George Eustice, has recently said, by voting to Leave we can take control of animal exports. As things stand, a targeted ban on some live exports from British ports would be against EU law.
“If we Vote Leave, a future British government would be able to consider introducing such targeted restrictions on ethical grounds – a matter for the elected government of the day.”
The Crawley MP also gave his support to the extension of the deadline to register to vote in the referendum by two days, to 11.59pm tonight (9th June).
Henry said;
“I was deeply concerned to read that the GOV.UK register to vote page was unavailable with just a couple of hours to go until Tuesday’s deadline.
“I’m supporting this extension in Parliament today – it is vital that any Crawley residents not on the electoral roll take just a few minutes to register in the most important choice the United Kingdom has faced for a generation. To register, please visit: www.gov.uk/register-to-vote”
